This was the (enhanced) view last Thursday, April 21st, west of Espanola, Ontario, en route to Sault Ste. Marie. I had stopped near Espanola for a break and a coffee, approximately 6 hrs into the 8.5 hr trip. Just before “hitting the highway” I got a text from Kim, who was already in the Soo, telling me that Prince had died! I wrote her back, checked a couple news sites and took a look to see what my 80G iPod Classic had loaded on it from the artist always known as Prince… 90 songs, “we have a new road trip soundtrack”. RIP Prince.
YouTube is loaded with live videos, something you would not see before April 21st. Everything would be taken down ASAP. I’ll load a few on this post but I do not expect these links to last, enjoy while you can.
I saw Prince live 3 times: the Lovesexy Tour, October 1988, the tour after Diamonds and Pearls, March 1993 and the Musicology Tour, July 2004. Kim was with me for the last two. I was Bill’s date for the first one. It’s hard to believe the last one was 12 years ago! I have never seen video from the Musicology tour, a band that features Candy Dulfer, Maceo Parker, drummer John Blackwell, Rhonda Smith on bass, etc. The video from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame opening set includes that band. The first 2 videos are from the Sign O’ The Times movie, crazy super lively performances. Ain’t nothin’ but a party up in here, y’all!
